This research is structured in two main fields: the survey and the excavation of the medieval castle. The first season in the country of Arena focused on a still preserved water management system that used to provide water to a large set of terraced fields surrounding the castle of Arena and the castle itself. The preliminary data of the survey returned a potential increase in land use from the end of the middle ages, while the castle is confirmed to have been originated by a Norman tower with a cluster.
